THE NEED FOR MINDFULNESS IN THE GLOBAL VILLAGE:
Over the past years, the world community has awakened to the fact that the overall well-being of planet Earth is gravely endangered. At this time of crisis, what is the role of the world religions? Are the religions merely to be on the sidelines or is there a unique role to play – a unique message that religions can give to the world community?One of the greatest gifts the various religious traditions can offer is the gift of mindfulness, the practice of loving attention. For the practice of stilling both body and mind and of letting go of the many things that distract and deplete us, we are able to experience God’s/ The Divine’s presence in the very here and now.
Since the ecological crisis has been in part precipitated by the mistaken belief that we are somehow separated from the natural world and that the natural world is separate from God/The Divine, the practice of mindfulness helps us to experience God’s/The Divine’s presence in the natural world and our intimate union with both.
